MORRISVILLE FIRE
DEPARTMENT
The Morrisville
Fire Department is a volunteer fire department that serves the town of
Morristown including the village of Morrisville, in Lamoille County.
We serve a population of approximately 5500 people in an area of 52
square miles. We have 35 members
and seven trucks, including one heavy rescue, two engines, one ladder, two
tankers and one utility vehicle.
We are dispatched by the Lamoille County
Communications Center located at the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department in
Hyde Park. Our primary dispatch
channel is on the VHF band at a frequency of 154.445 mHz and use a fire ground
frequency of 154.295 mHz. We are
part of the Lamoille County Fire Mutual Aid System that includes all eight fire
departments in Lamoille County. We
work closely with all local fire and EMS agencies.
Our application process is simple and we are always
looking for able bodies to join our ranks.
After acceptance to the department, new members are placed on a nine
month probation. In that time they
are required to attend and pass the Firefighting Essentials class put on by the
Vermont State Firefighting Council. After
their probation they are voted on as a regular member.
Officers meetings are usually held on the first
Monday of each month and the regular meetings are usually held on the first
Tuesday of each month. Training is
conducted on the following Tuesdays from January to June.
Training is based on state and federal requirements for firefighting.
We are known to have dinners on a regular basis to bring the department
together along with town officials and community members that have assisted us
in some way throughout the year.
We are a non-profit agency that depends on the
support of the community through our municipal budget and numerous fundraisers.
Recently we embarked on a major fundraiser to purchase the county’s
first Thermal Imaging camera. More
can be read about that on our Thermal Imager link.
It was a huge success and we continue to raise monies for needed
accessories and training on the camera. We
also participate in the yearly Fire Prevention Week.
Members from our department and other area departments take time out of
their busy schedules to educate the younger members of the community and their
families about the importance of fire prevention.
They spend time in the local classrooms and then bring them to the fire
station for more demonstrations and a tour of the firehouse. This is also a huge success and many of the kids look forward
to it each year. Check out the Fire
Prevention link to read more about it and see a few pictures of the fun at the
firehouse.
